How do you fix unhealthy gums?
There is no big secret, and it does not happen overnight.
However there a few basic changes you can do help return your gums to health and ensure a confident smile.
Periodontal,(gum disease) as most of us know it as isn’t something anyone wants to hear they have.
It is likely you have you’ve been told you have it( we all do to a degree )
The common question we are asked is how does it happen?
Periodontal disease is caused by a multitude of aspects including bad oral hygiene, tooth decay, and excessive amounts of bacteria and plaque build-up, smoking is also a cause.
The long term ramifications of periodontal disease results tooth loss, along the way you will experience pain, infection and sensitivity.
The good news is that periodontal disease is completely preventable.
Below are some simple ways you can prevent gum disease at home:
1)Brush after every meal.
To prevent the accumulation of plaque in the mouth, brush after every meal. If a toothbrush isn’t handy, just rinsing your mouth out with some water can help wash away any bacteria between brushing.
2)Interdental cleaning is key. This means in-between teeth, it is vital to remove plaque and food particles that get lodged in between tooth and the gum. These areas cannot be removed by brushing.
Interdental cleaning is key step in preventing periodontal disease. Before bed, we advise while we are often watching those final moment of TV do it then, it becomes a good habit
3) See your dentist and hygienist every 3-6 months
It has been show that approximately 3 out of 4 people are unaware that they suffer from periodontal disease.
This is why it is essential to have regular dental appointments.

4) Quit smoking, one of the biggest causes of tooth loss is smoking.
