Project Overview
PP came to Boundary Implant Centre with severe dental issues, including over crowding, lower jaw alignment issues and mercury fillings. Our team devised a tailored treatment plan involving sure smile clear aligners and cosmetic procedures. The projected plan will take around 18 months to complete.
Patient Background
The patient has had crowded teeth since early childhood, with some teeth misaligned and overlapping in both the upper and lower jaws. Additionally, the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth when the mouth is closed. The patient feels that now is the right time to improve the appearance of their teeth alignment as much as possible.
Treatment Plan
The patient has already had a scan for their SureSmile clear aligner fitting, which has been sent to the lab for simulation. Additionally, the patient requested the removal of old mercury fillings using a holistic approach with the SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocol.
Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique
The SMART protocol is a global health initiative aimed at protecting dental patients, dental professionals, and the environment from the harmful effects of mercury. Dental amalgam fillings, which contain approximately 50% elemental mercury, can pose risks during their removal.
Patient Experience
The patient was familiar with dental procedures and felt comfortable with drilling. However, this process was new to them. They were fully covered in protective equipment, and a specialised mouth cap isolated the tooth being treated.
To aid breathing while the cap was in place, they had an oxygen tube in each nostril. Their entire face and eyes were covered during the procedure. Thanks to the oxygen supply, the patient felt confident and had no issues with breathing at any time.
They also consumed activated charcoal before and after the procedure to help filter out any residual mercury and other toxins from their system.

Transformative Dental Results
Full protective attire for the patient includes a gown, eyewear, hair coverings, and skin coverings. Activated charcoal is utilised to bind heavy metals in the body and promote their elimination, as evidenced by the dark coloration observed on the tongue in the picture.
A crack in the tooth was discovered after removing the mercury filling.
