Same-Day Dental Crowns: How CEREC Technology Lets You Fix a Tooth in One Visit

If you have ever been told you need a dental crown, you may already be familiar with the traditional process: multiple appointments, messy impressions, and a temporary crown while you wait for the final one to return from a laboratory.

Today, dentistry has moved on.

At Boundary Implant Centre, we use CEREC technology to provide same-day restorations, allowing many patients to have treatment completed in just one visit, without temporary restorations or unnecessary delays.

What is a same-day dental restoration?

A same-day restoration means your dental work is designed, created and fitted on the same day.

Using advanced digital scanning and in-practice milling technology, we can often complete treatment in a single appointment — reducing disruption to your daily life while maintaining accuracy and quality.

What types of treatment can be completed on the same day?

Depending on your individual case, CEREC technology can be used for:

  • Single-tooth crowns

  • Inlays and onlays

  • Crowns over dental implants

  • Up to three-unit bridges (where suitable)

Your dentist will always assess whether same-day treatment is appropriate for your tooth, bite and long-term oral health.

How does CEREC work?

CEREC is a digital system developed by Dentsply Sirona that allows restorations to be created accurately within the practice.

Digital scanning instead of impressions

We take a highly accurate digital scan of your tooth using a small handheld scanner. There are no trays, no paste, and no discomfort.

Designing your crown

Your dentist designs your crown on screen, shaping it to fit your bite and surrounding teeth naturally.

Milling your crown on site

The design is sent to our milling unit, which creates your crown from a solid ceramic block. This usually takes a short amount of time while you relax.

Fitting on the same day

Once ready, the crown is carefully checked, polished, and securely fitted — all in the same appointment

Why patients choose same-day restorations

Many patients prefer same-day treatment because it offers:

  • One visit instead of multiple appointments

  • No temporary crowns or bridges

  • No messy impressions

  • Accurate fit and natural appearance

  • Strong, long-lasting ceramic materials

  • Less disruption to work and daily routines

For patients travelling, managing busy schedules, or simply wanting efficient care, same-day dentistry can make a real difference.

Is same-day treatment right for everyone?

While many crowns, inlays, onlays and short bridges can be completed in one visit, not every case is suitable.

Some complex situations may still benefit from laboratory-based work. We will always explain your options clearly and recommend the treatment that best supports your long-term dental health.

Please take your time and speak to the team if you have questions — we are here to help you feel informed and comfortable.

Considering a same-day dental restoration?

If you need a crown, inlay, onlay, implant crown or a short bridge, modern CEREC technology may allow your treatment to be completed in just one visit — without temporary restorations or repeat appointments.

We will always assess your individual needs and explain whether same-day treatment is suitable for you.
